Coast and geodetic survey of
ficials told Senator McNary (R
Orc.) yesterday that the winds
have been more prevalent In the
last few years, and may have
driven the Japanese current clos
er to the Oregon coast.
They did not think the condi
tion would be permanent, but
advocated a survey.

simple but perfect recipes for
these nourishing and delicious
standard fillings:
BUTTERSCOTCH CREAM
FILLING
One-fourth cup flour, 13 cup
brown sugar, packed down,
teaspoon salt. 23 cup water, 2
tablespoons butter, 1 teaspoon
vanilla, t cup cream, whipped.
Combine flour, sugar and salt
In top of double boiler. Add
water. Set over boiling wuter
and cook until thickened, atlr
ring constantly. Add butter.
Cool and add vanilla and cream.
LEMON CREAM FILLING
One-fourth cup flour, i cup
eugar, i teaspoon salt, 1 cup
lemon Juice, i cup water, 1 egg
lightly beaten, 2 tablespoons but
ter, i teaspoon grated lemon
rind.
Combine flour, sugar and salt
In top of doubla boiler; add lem
on Juice, water and egg. Set
over boiling water and cook
until thlckoned, stirring con
stantly. Add butter and lemon
rind; cool.
CREAM FILLING
For cream pic, tarts, Boston
cream pic (cake), cream puffs
and eclairs.
Two-thirds cup sugar, 13 cup
flour, i teaspoon salt, 2 cups hot
milk, teaspoon vanilla, t tea
spoon lemon or almond extract,
2 eitgs or egg yolks.
Mix dry ingredients. Add hot
milk graduully. Cook IS min
utes in a double boiler, stirring
constantly until mixture thick
ens, and then occasionally. Add
slowly two slightly-beaten eggs
and cook 3 to ft minutes long
er, cool and flavor. For a thick
er filling use i cup flour.
MENU
BREAKFAST Sliced or

milk.
LUNCHEON Tomato soup,
left-over vegetable salad, but
torscotch tarts, tea, milk.
DINNER Roost beef hoah,
toasted muffins, buttered
beets, apple and lettuce salad,
