OKLAHOMA CITY, Aug. 21
(IP) An offer of $500 per trip
to all taken to ferry planes
across the turbulent north At
lantic to England had the Okla
homa flying fraternity buzzing
today.
Arriving unheralded, Col.
William C. Brooks, flying sol
dier of fortune, outlined this
proposition and two alternatives,
according to avlatiors h6 inter
viewed. For the pilots he could
not reach during hn stay, he
left interview blanks and
posters.
The supplemental offers were:
(1) Ferrying Jobs to England
and, (2) commissions In the Can
adian royal air force with as
surances that those enlisting
would serve only as Instructors
and see no foreign service.
These offers bolstored the re
ports current since the war be
gan that England eventually
would seek to ferry Amerlcan
mnde ships across the ocean,
taking a chance on losing only a
few through crashes or combat
rather than a whole shipload in
a submarine or nnval bombing
attack.

officer who speaks perfect Eng
lish and who is described as
"dangerous" was at largo today
after a bold, perhaps radio-directed
pscapo from a Canadian
internment camp In northern On
tario, Kifth columnists. t least one
of them n woman, were believed
by Canadian authorities, to have
aided In the escape.
The prisoner, brought here
from England, crawled to freo-
dom through a three-foot high
tunnel built directly under one
of tlio Kuant rooms and braced
efficiently by timber which po
lice said whs stolen piece by piece
from workmen building addi
tions to the camp barracks.
So carefully was the tunnel
made that authorities believe a
general escape may liavo been
planned.
