kept firmly in mind that the city limits of Klamath Falls
do not surround the real city of Klamath Falls, asd that
there is a population of thousands which will be just
outside those limits. This fact may cause disappointment
to the more optimistic folk who are talking figures like

In the city by April 15, and it will be some time after
that before the final figures are announced. Preliminary
figures may be given out before the final, specific coont
is announced.
The sort of as impression Klamath and lake counties
make on, visitors is indicated in comment this week by
Eva Nealon Hamilton in the Medford News. Mrs. Ham
ilton, incidentally, said that she heard talk here of a
population of 29,000 for Klamath Falls. Our own esti
mate would place the real population of the city and its
suburbs at jost about that figure. But 29,000 is far

technically . considered by the r census bureau. We're
pretty sure of that. ,
Getting-back to Mrs. Hamilton's impressions. She
says she was "thrilled by the sense of industry, which
has pervaded that section (Klamath and Lake counties)
promising to make a real city of Klamath Falls and a very
prosperous town, at least, mi Lakeview." Speaking of
Klamath Falls, she said: "When dark claimed the city,
a million lights came out to beckon Saturday night shop
pers and revelers into Klamath Falls. There every one
seemed so much alive .... There the people are Jook-
were thrjUed. wttfc the energy and vigor of Klamath
Falls and "the strange charm of the great barren moun
tains wwcQ rise up out of ner fertile valleys."
Those are flattering words from the Medford editor,
who went on, fav-recounting her trip, to describe the
beauties of the Eogne river valley, as seen from Green
springs grade, with well deserved tribute. What this
visitor felt in the atmosphere of this area is often re
marked upon by others who come here and regard this
as one of the real live spots of he coast. As time goes
on, it will become more and more a beauty spot. Vast
progress is being made in the beautification of private
property with trees and shrubs and flowers. Parks and
other public property are beinsr develoned. This is cer
tain to continue, making the Klamath area increasingly
attractive ana pleasant lor visitors and home folks alike.
Recently the mails reaching the editorial desk have
carried a number of anonymous letters, and others on
political subjects whose authors do not wish their names
mentioned. Neither type of letter can be used. Letters
on political subjects must be signed by the name of the
contributor. Anonymous letters gef no - consideration.
These are rules that will bear no exceptions.
Dispatches say German soldiers swarmed into Nor

not being used at alL In other
places, many rooms are not used.
This is something which
makes professional pessimists be
lieve the U. S. is dying out. As
a matter of fact, the less heavily
populated school buildings mean
nothing of the sort. i
