A bill Introduced by Sen. Mc
Nury (R-Oro.) Monday asked the
government to pay f 4000 to
member of tho Tarpley family
of nickrenll. Ore., Injured when
a shell fired onto their farm by
national guardsmen exploded
after being carried Into the
house.
Dan A. Tarpley, for whom
$2500 was asked, took the shell
home. An additional $300 was
asked for Ernest H. Tarpley and
$1000 for Pearl Tarpley. The ex
ploslon occurred May 19, 1938.
The war department has picked
a site near Holyoke, Mass., for the
army's new northeast air base.
Initial construction, to cost 13,
(13.000, bas been started. The
base will cost more than 18,000,
000 when completed.
