a judge at a bathing beauty con
test would pass up a knock-kneed
gal, football's critics from coast
to coast this week passed up the
unbeaten volunteers of Tennessee
and named Texas Aggies as the
nation's outstanding grid power.
It took a lot of undoing to take
Tennessee out of the leadership ft
had held for four straight weeks
In the Associated Press country
wide poll. But the Aggies, just
one game away from a perfect sea
son, garnered 38 first place votes,
37 for second and 17 for third on
110 ballots, or a total of 963
points In the sixth vote of the sea
son. That was enough to surpass
Tennessee by 65 points, but the
surprises didn't end there. Cor
nell, pride of the east, rolled up
a popular vote of 865 points just
33 shy of the Tennessee total of
8SS. The 19-0 shellacking handed
Rice by the Aggies, Cornell's .)5-6
walloping of Dartmouth, and Ten
nessee's comparatively narrow
squeak In beating Vanderbilt only
13-0, all apparently were consid
ered Important by the writers, who
participate in the poll.

benefit of Oregonlans planning to
transport fruit and nuts, holly and
Christmas trees, agricultural pro
ducts, animals and so forth into
California during the holiday sea
son, Fred B. Judges, manager ot
the touring department of the Ore
gon State Motor association, has
gathered information regarding
restrictions and exemptions pro
vided by the California law.
Apples, nuts, pears and similar
products are admissible without
compliance with any specific quar
antine law. Howover, they are sub
ject to Inspection upon nrrlval and
must be found to be free of in
jurious insect and plant disease
pests. One exception is In the
caso of walnut, hickory and poenn
nuts, which are required to be en
tirely freo from the husk or outer
covering normally removed at the
tlnio of harvest.
Potatoes propagated in Oregon
are admlssiblo into California If
accompanied by an official stale of
origin certificate.
Holly and Chrlstmns trees are
admissible without restriction, ex
cept that they are subject to in
spection at time of entry and must
be free from serious insect and
ptant disease pests. The Oregon
department of agriculture has pro
vided treatments for the insect pest
known as holly scale. When ship
ments ot holly aio accompanied by
a certificate affirming such treat
ments have been given at origin,
same is admitted without further
restriction.
California Imposes no restric
tions upon the entry ot dogs or
cats or any other domesticated ani
mals. Wild bird and animal Im
portation is strictly supervised.
Birds of the parrot family are
subject to such strict Inspection
by federal and state departments
ot public health that practically
none of this species Is permitted
to enter California.
