THE NEWS AND THE HERALD, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON July 8, PAGE TEN LOGGER BARELY ESCAPES DEATH BY CARBON GAS Nelson Snelgrove of Forest eamp at Pine Ridge narrowly escaped death hy carbon monoxide gas while traveling In a car on Sun mountain paBB, according to word received In Klamath Kails. Snelgrove, with three compan ions, Bruce Johnson, Frank Baker and Ben Walker, all fellow em ployes at Forest camp, told occu pants of the car that he "felt sleepy" and got Into the back seat to sleep. Shortly after the car arrived at Sand creek stauon the other attempted to waken Snelgrove but found his eyes wide open, arms stiff and with no ap parent pulse or breathing. One of the guests at Sand Creek station drove 15 miles to summon Dr. Marvin Nerseth of Chllouuln who gave aid upon arrival. In the meantime first aid was given by the R. H. Wilsons, who operate the Sand Creek station, which is also an emergency first aid sta tion maintained by the Red Cross. Snelgrove was given artificial respiration for a halt hour before he began to breathe. He was later wrapped in blankets and surrounded with hot water bot tles. The next day the man was taken to his home at Pine Ridge, where he remained In bed for several days. The other three, Johnson, Bak er and Walker, were also affect ed by the carbon monoxide gas but wpre advised to remain In the open air and they fully recovered within a short time. On investigation It was found that the exhaust pipe was broken and bent up under the back seat. On Vacation Ruth Craft, who Is employed in the office of the California Oregon Power com pany as stenographer, is on vaca tion this week In Eugene visiting with friends and relatives. Name Omitted In the story which appeared recently In regard to Installation of officers by Wo men of the Moose, the name of Mable Ward, Installed as chaplain for the coming year, was omitted. Bicycle Exams Carl Cook, city recreational officer, will con duct examinations for bicycle li censes at the city hall Saturday at 2 p. m. DEPUTY REPORTS ON PROGRESS OF JOURNEY EAST The district attorney'! office Friday morning received an un signed card from Chicago, the handwriting auspiciously like that of L. Orth Slsemore, deputy dis trict attorney, who la en route east to attend the national con vention of Elks. Slsemore la ex alted ruler of the Klamath Falls lodge.
