large volume of smoke with the
source at Table mountain streak
ed acroas tho sky to the west as
far aa Ashland peak.
Foreat aervlce members are at
a loss to know bow a fire could
have originated at this snow
covered and abandoned station In
January. An Investigation, bow
ever, will be made.
Ranger Hugh Rltter of the local
office will leave for the scene
Monday morning and drive to the
Greensprlng summit from where
skis will be used to reach the
lookout point, a distance of seven
miles to the nortb.
The lookout Is of high Impor
tance both to the Jackson County
Fire Patrol association and the
U. S. forest service, since it com
mands an unobstructed view of all
tbe timbered lands near Ashland
as well as important stands of
ponderosa pine In the Dead In
dian and Jenny creek drainages.
If tbe structure actually burned,
plans will be made for rebuilding
as soon as the place can be reach
ed by auto next spring. The loss,
Including an ' adjoining garage,
would amount to approximately
$1600.

ANGLO-AMERICAN TRADE
TREATY IN FINAL STAGES

Tho United States and Great Bri
tain moved today toward the final
singes of a significant commercial
accord climaxing Secretary Hull's
foreign trade program.
The proponed pact, which Hull
formally proclaimed last night In
expreasing his Intention of nego
tiating with tbe United Kingdom,
will Involve a globe-girdling mar
ket. It will embrace not only Britain
but her far-flung colonial empire
and Newfoundland. Only India,
the domlniona and Ireland will
be excluded.
Actual negotiation of the agree
ment, designed to achieve mutual
tariff concessions, will begin as
soon as American Interests nave
made known their views concern
ing specific items of commerce.
British and American economic
experts have been engaged for
more than a year In preliminary
work on the projected agreement.
A British trade mlsalon will come
here next month to conduct the
final parleys,
