By HEINZ DIETSCHE
rrHE annual Hi-Y Christmas
drive that brings "ye old Yule
tide spirit" right to the front
doors of the Klamath Falls needy,
started off with an explosion Mon
day that rocketed through 32
home rooms.
Coasting in on the blast were
eight Hi-Y verbal experts who ex
plained the purpose of the drive
to the students, the method of
computing points and the general
plan of procedure.
Because necktie, and KIM
have failed to be synonyms in the
past, didn't keep the Hi-Y organ
ization from taking initiative and
requiring its members to wear the
"throat stranglers" for the next
few weeks. Provided that the
esophagus remains intact, the
lassoed members should be none
the worse for the breath-taking
experience.
Masterful Alonzo Palmer is
definitely "slipping." It used to
be of yore that whenever his "two
octaves below bass" voice (that
sounds like the blend of a drum
and a, cannon plus the quack of
a duck for quality) boomed out,
children would freeze in their
tracks and tremble in ectasies of
fear.
Yesterday. Alonzo dressed as a
ghost made a tour of the rooms to
induce his victims to see the So
cial Science club and Girls' Letter
Club movie, "The Ghost Walks."
When his supernatural appear
ance and fiendish, awe inspiring
shriek, (product of an enlarged
tonsil) failed to move even the
timid freshmen, the make-shift
spectre simply had to swallow his
pride and think, what in the world
Is this modern generation com
ing to.

Professors Develop Color
Line Between Roosters, Hens
By EDDY GILMORE
BELTSVILLE, Md.. Dec. 14
LPProfessors of poultry at this
government experimental station
rejoiced today over a new fowl
color scheme.
Discarding the complex-sounding
names which the experiment
ers give to chickens(tbe chick
ens don't answer to them any
way)the results were obtained
by mating red roosters and white
hens.
This is wilat happened:
The sons of the red roosters
and white hens came outwhite.
The daughters of the red roost
ers and the white hens came Out
red.
What of it?
Well, when chickens are very
young, it's not everybody who
can swoop down on a barnyard
and tell who's who.
A farmer employing this sys
tem. the experimenters say, will
be able to shoo the young hens
Into one yard and the roosters in
to another.
What's accomplished by that
The government experts say it
will make for bigger and fatter
young hens. Experiments have
shown that if left together, the
potential roosters will always get
most of the food.
This way the pullet gets her
first break in years.
If there are folks who think
scientists are finding out too
much about chickens, let them be
comforted by the fact that there's
not an expert in the place who
will answer the question:
Which came first, the ben or
the egg?

Yeah, starring. We got a job

turned our eyebrows from pink

Waiting for us there was Tay

to know what we were supposed

"Newspaper reporter," we said.
"I'm sorry." replied Garnett,
"but you're not the type!"
We insisted we'd been a news

that if we didnt look like one. no

"Well, you don't," Garnett
snapped. "You're supposed to have

We had on our brown reportorial

which was 10 cents wasted be

trying to shoulder her way into
her dressing room. Ail of us en

five words to say, thus:
"Miss Durrett (her flint name)
you were superb!"
We spent the whole morning
telling MPS Dunne how superb
she was. It eeemed to bore her,
but $11 is $11, SVOI It it does go
to charity. At noon we had an
hour for lunch and then we came
back for more acting.
"The Joy of Loving" ought to
be an elegant movie. We want
particularly to recommend the
performance of the black-browed,
red-headed man, who mays with so
much feeling:
"Miss Dunne, you'r superb!"
