1 1 PAGE TEN i X-IIAI' REVEALS TUBERCULOSIS, 'DOCTOR CLAIMS TWIW7 1 "The x-rity positively shows hp trouble in the lungs In cases of tuberculosis from six months to a year earlier than any oth r type of diagnosis," stated Dr. J. M. Hilton of the x-ray laboratory in a talk given Tuea day noon at the meeting of the Klamath County Public Health association at the Pelican cafe. Dr. Hilton explained the dif ferences in symptoms and dis ease of childhood and adult tu berculosis and pointed out that since the elimination of tuber cular cows and general pasteur isation of milk, the bovine type of tuberculosis which affected children has now almost gone out Of existence except in a few Sections of the country. However, he said, it is ex tremely rare when the x-ray of an adult of today does not show that be has been infected with tuberculosis as a child. prob ably contacted through milk, al though the disease may not bays run into adult tuberculosis. In regard to the tuberculin test, Dr. Hilton explained that it is economical and can be sup plied to large numbers of chil dren, showing those children who have been exposed to tuber culosis. He stressed the im portance of -checking up on where the disease bad been contracted. which in most cases Is from some person with whom the child is in touch daily. The importance of an x-ray, be said. Is to the child over 12 years old who has had direct contact with tuberculosis and that such a child showing Symptoms of the disease should be kept under observation un til the age of 25. In concluding, Dr. Hilton stated that in his opinion if the policy which health associations throughout the country are now following is continued for the next 15 years. tuberculosis will he relegated to one of the min er illnesses. Dr. Neil Black, Klamath County health officer. explained the work on which he and Dr. Hilton have been cooperating and said that there have been several cases less where chil dren have been x-rayed but that in most instances it has been adults. The tuberculosis testing clin ies have not as yet been fully developed, he explained, but said that in one of the largest clinics conducted in the coun ty, which was at Chiloquin, many re-actors were found among the Indians.
