an automobile driven by Hamil
ton, received Injuries 'Wednesday
afternoon, when the niachine
which they were riding crashed
head-on into another car on the
Oreensprings highway. according
to reports filed at the sheriff's
office.
Hamilton reported that the ac
cident occurred about 3:30 P
nh, when he tried to pa ea a
truck, end smashed Into a ma
chine coming from the opposite
direction. W. V. Cox of the
UM
Ashland route was the driver of
the truck. and J. C. Thorson of
1 route 3. the operator of the sec
ond car involved.
Other minor accidents in which
no injuries resulted were report
ed to sheriff's office as a result
of storms during the past two
days. Dora Wimer and Grace
Smith were operators or auto
mobiles invohed hi a slight ac
cident Wednesday noon on The
Da lies-California highway near
the city limits of Klamath Falls.
On Wednesday evening ma
chines driven by Richard N.
Coponger and Edward Cook were
Invoked in an accident on the
Midland road.
Monte Rouintree of Merrill
and Ed Simon of Portland re
ported an accident about two
miles west of Henley school oc
curring at 7:30 p. m. Wednes
day. Donald Erven Roberts of Olene
and K. L. Thomas of Klamath
Falls reported an accident which
occurred on the west side of Poe
valley at 11 a. in.. Thursday.
William Burkbard reported en
accident at 6 p. tn. Thursday.
about a half mile south of Keno.
The name of the driver of the
seco n d car involved was not
given in Burkhard's report.
METHODISTS PLAN
MOVE AGAINST EDT
At the First Methodist church
the special features of the let'.
vice of Sunday morning will be
the special music which will in
clude an anthem, "Seed Time and
Harvest," Lorena, by the choir
directed by Miss Lillie E. Darby,
and a duet. "Nearer. Still Near
er," Morris, by Mr. and Mrs.
Emery' Owen. The theme of the
sermon will be The Power of
Prayer."
The young married people of
the community are invited to the
parsonage, 1005 High street. for
the initial meeting of the Young
Married People's club which will
be held on Monday evening be
ginning at 7:30 o'clock.
On Tuesday evening beginning
at 7:30 p. m. all members and
workers are asked to meet with
Dr. Sydney W. Hall, superintend
ent of the Cascade district, for
the launching of a campaign to
raise part of the church debt. The
set-rice will begin with the Fel
lowship of the Upper Room, fol
lowed by the launching of the
campaign. The trustees have de
cided to do everything possible
at this time to get the balance of
the debt. remaining on the build
ing put in better shape, so that
It may be cleared off entirely in
a specified period of time. Dr.
Hall and Dr. Wemett will assist
the pastor and workers in this ef

Stanley Picture Costly

Otto Brower. the movie director.
reported today that he spent five
months and nearly 2300,000 to
get authentic background for the
forthcoming picture about Stan
ley's African adventures.
"And when I got to UMW. where
Stanley found Dr. Livingston and
spoke one of history's most fam
ous lines." he added ruefully. "I
had to built a let must like we
make here in Hollywood."
It was in the year 1272 that
Henry Al. Stanley, a young newa
paper reporter, was given the
epochal assignment of going to
Africa and staying there until he
found the long-missing scientist,
Dr. Robert Livingston.
After incredible hardships.
Stanley staggered into the vilage
of Ujiji. on Lake Tanganeka, dis
covered a w1Hte-baired old man
and uttered these words:
"Dr. Livingston, I presume?"
Twentieth Century-Pox is mak
ing a cinematic record of this ad
venture, with Tyrone Power play
ing the part of Stanley. The com
pany sent Director Brower into
the heart of Africa five months
ago to get background pictures
for the film.
"So I went to Africa with a
staff of 27 men," Brower said.
"We flew from England. The cost
of our airplane tickets would have
been enough to make many a
movie, entire.
"When we landed at Nairobi,
we made up a safari of about 200

took us five months to do it, and
though we worked hard, we suf
fered no particular hardships.
"Eventually we got to Mill,
where Stanley spoko'his celebrat
ed line. We discovertsti that we

The Blip of 1872 was not the
UJIJI or 1937.
"There were gasoline filling
stations when wo got there, and
houses with tin roofs and natives
wearing civilised clothes. SO we
had to go back out of town a
piece and build our own 1872 ver
sion of the- town. The natives
thought we were crazy."
Brower got a lot of co-operation,
however. from the folks who
thought he was a little cracked.
That was because he paid them
high wages in true Hollywood
fashion.
Each native got a daily salary
of one chunk of meat and the
equivalent of 13g American pennies.
Cecil B. De Mille, who has spent
more millions perhaps on more
moviea than any other director.
had to get a special permit from
the actor's union today, before he
could turn movie actor. himself.
Once he got his permit, De
Mille donned an ensemble of
green, including suit, shirt, tie
and emerald ring, put on his put
tees and took the part of a movie
actor in a film being produced to
advertise his forthcoming picture.

ducted by our Ministerial As
sociation and the Rev. James
Rayburn, in which approximate
ly 200 young people confessed
their Lord and started on a bet
ter life.
