An expert who examined the bodies of thousands of people after death estimates that there are six moles for every human being. The chances that a mole will become a cancer and cause death are, therefore, thousands to one. However, cases are on record in which moles have suddenly de veloped the characteristic of ma lignant growth, eventually be: coming cancers and causing death. A mole on the neck may be rubbed repeatedly by a stiff col lar. A mole near the waist in women may be constantly rub bed by a girdle. A mole on the Inner side of a thigh or near the rectum may be irritated by the usual physiological actions of the human being. Moles in these places should be carefully watched and exam ined regularly to see whether or THREE CHILDREN BURN IN COTTAGE ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 28 (UP) Two daughters and a baby on of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Weber of Detroit were burned to death last night when their one room cottage on Horseshoe lake, eight miles north of here, was de stroyed by fire. The rising cost of living, and the fact that under the law old age assistance will spread in January to the needy from 65 years of age upwards, instead of 70, as at present, are important factors in an ioutlook for increased budgetary items. The amount of be expended in this county for old age assistance in 1938 has been estimated at $84.000, as against $62,000 in expenditures for 1937. Of the $84,000 to be raised, the county will pay 25 per cent, the state 25 per cent, and the federal government 50 per cent. This was due, in part, to the fact that in June the re lief agency took over the dependent mothers' aid cases from the county. Even so, the experience of the three summer months, as indicated in this table, is not exactly encouraging to hope that relief burdens may be reduced. Relief has become a permanent and sizeable bud getary item. not they are being irritated. - The signs which indicate that a mole may be likely to cause trouble are bleeding. increase in size, sudden increase in promi nence on the surface of the skin and enlargement of glands about the mole. Bleeding on any portion of the body is a dangerous sign and should be investigated as to its cause. If a mole is situated in any part of the body .where it is likely to be irritated or if it shows the slightest signs of ir ritation, it is not well to "just skip it." Nor is it well to attempt to treat it by the usual home meth ods. Many people who try to treat themselves when they dis cover an irritation or bleeding In the mole will apply a caustic of some sort or some irritating antiseptic. The result is to stimulate the mole to grow ;eth er than to bring it under con trol. Removal of a mole is a sim ple matter. A surgeon may cut it away under an anesthetic, tak ing away all of its tissue. Then he will make certain, by exami nation under a microscope, that the mole does not have the characteristic of cancer. - NEXT: First signs of a can cer and how it develops. suffering from severe burns and Shock. (Grants Pass (ourier) It was an odd presentation of "expert testimony" that the cir cuit court session in Medford saw this morning. The "expert" witness was a man who had been playing pin ball machines for about three years and estimated that he had operated them at least 3000 times. Thus qualified, he stepped up to one machine labeled the state's "exhibit A" and took three pre liminary shots, hitting nothing but the "out" hole for his pains. While the twelve Jurors, ten men and two women, looked over his shoulder front the Jury box he exerted his alleged skill and made ten efforts to coax the machine to cough up a dividend. Reports from the tense courtroom before the noon recess. were that the ma chine defied him ten times in a row and the box score registered: Machine 65 cents, "Mr. Expert Witness" zero.
