Stock Market
Quotations
NEW YORK, Sept. 25 UMAt
tempts; to rally the stock market
today met with further resistance.
Recoveries running to two
pohni appeared shortly after the
start, but leaders soon ran into
sufficient offerings to bait the
comeback, and improvement waa
cancelled in many instances or
converted into declines.
Activity occasionally was pro
flounced with the ticker tape b '-
hind as speculative forces battled
to establish positions. Trends
were mixed at the close.
The news picture provided little
incentive either way. Additional
moderate selling wan reported
from abroad, based partly on "hot
money" discussions between Brit
ain and authorities at Washing
ton. Some overseas buying or
ders, however, were also in evi
dence. Although some thought the
market had been oversold, others
remained skeptical pending a
cleared outlook on business, earl,
logs, dividends and politics. The
far eastern war was thought to
have been a minor influence.
Transfers were around 1.300.-
000 shares.
