Mother Surrenders Son As Slayer of His Father

The mcst dramatic climax to a San Francisco murder mystery came in connection with the finding of a mans
body with nead beaten in. U. S. fingerprint records identified him as Carl Jackson, formerlyof Kansas City, ap
parently destitute and alone. Then his widow surrendered to police her son, Carl Jackson Jr., 26, San Francisco,
declared he must hove killed his father, "and If he did, I know it was in self-defense." She told of years of
abuse from Jackstn of coming to live with her son. and Jackson coming West to threaten them and demand
money. The son, after several hours, made a confession saying he killea in self-defense. Photo shows Carl

Bar ansociation for Monday night
has been postponed until later

The bar association banquet,
which will probably be held Fri
day, in an affair for lawyern only
and has no connection with the
public banquet in honor of Judge
and Mrss. McColloch 'scheduled for
the IVillard hotel Wednesday
night.
Enrollment in the city grade
schools has increased nearly 100
over the first-day figures during
the week since school opened,
Superintendent J. Percy Wells
reported Monday. There are now
2007 pupils in the city element
ary system as compared to 1913
a week ago.
Wells said he expected the
number would continue to grow
for at least three weeks more.
