away, and told Clyde Beatty bow
much they loved Boss Tweed In
life and how much they'd love
to bare his hide, the lion train
er turned them all down.

for a certain lion's hide In my
life," said Clyde, "but after all
the management comes first. I
can understand It because be
was the beat-looking lion I ever
had and he'll make a beautiful

Clyde Himself was attached to

"In such a fight the Hons
have two distinct advantagea.

ganging up on a tiger. A tiger

being attacked. The Hons Join
each other. An animal attend
ant excitedly raised a gate Into
the ahoot so the beasts could re
turn to their cages. Into the
shoot ran three Bengal tigers
with Boaa Tweed In pursuit.
"For twenty minutes they bat
tled. Boss Tweed killed tbe three
tigers, but himself was almost
torn to ribbons. He recovered
but somehow be never seemed
to be the same. His spirit or his
fighting nerve wraa gone. The
other morning I opened bis cage
door and he was dead. For seven
years I trained him, the longeat
of any of my cats. I "was greatly
attached to Him."
