(UP) Infuriated strike pickets,
half blinded and nauieated by
barrages of gas and defeated in
a series ot band to hand skirm
ishes with company guards, re
turned to the attack on the
strike-besieged Ohio Insulator
company plant today.
Shouting defiance and push
ing forward through clouds of
acrid tomes, the Pickett wielding
clubs and swinging fists repeat
edly clashed with guarda and
deputy sheriffs.
Gas Sheila Inexhaustible
Each time the strikers were
repulsed, but each time the tlgbt
waged mora fiercely. Grounds
around the pottery plant were
turned Into a veritable battle
field. ' A score of pickets all of
whom are members of the Na
tional Brotherhood of Operative
Potters" or their sympathizers
were injured by the gas or the
fists ot the company guarda. Sor.
eral were sent to hospitals.
Dozens of oth-irs were injured
by bursting tear gas shells, of
which the guards had an appar
ently inexhaustible supply.

deputies, who Included also tht
company guards, sallied forth
from lie plant galea every few
minutes to release a new barrage
ot gas in the direction of the
angry pickets.
The rioting waa occasioned by
an attempt ot the company to re
open the factory after a nine
weeks shutdown. The union men
on strike demanded a So per cent
pay increase and seniority rights.
So far no firearms have been
In evidence near the plant. The
guarda were armed only with
tear gaa bombs and the guns
used to burl them. Strikers
were armed with clubs and
stones. About 60 non-strlklug
workers were Inside the plant.
Sheriffs 8: rategy
The first ontbreak occurred to
day wen 306 ptrkets assembled
to prevent non-strlking employes
from returning to work.
Sheriff Flower told the pickets
that nothing conld be gained by
violence. Aa he held the crowd's
attention, a cavalcade of 1? auto
mobiles loaded with employes
roared Into tha unguarded drive
way. Suspecting that the sheriffs
pacific address was a strategic
move designed to decoy them
away from the driveway, the pic
kets shouted In anger, snatrbed
cluba and bricks and swept down
upon tha ears, amashlng win
dows and denting doors and fen
ders. The frightened employee
scrambled from machines and
ran to tha shelter of tha plant,
(loarda Mobilised
Wben It became apparent that
serious trouble loomed, (ft guards
were mobilised and sworn In as
depatles by Sheriff Flower and
sent to quell tha disturbance.
Hurling tear gas and nauseat
ing gaa bomb, the guards scat
tered the strikers. The nest
trouble came, wben a freight
train, bearing supplies to tha be
sieged workers, chugged onto the
company siding. Strikers' sen
triea discovered food and bedding
on the supply train. A cry went
op and the enraged pickets fell
upon the train and attempted to
force it back. Again, tae guards
were called out and again the
pickets tell back under a gaa
barrage.
Sporadic skirmishes occurred
when more cart ot workers
sought entrance to the plant.
KlectrirUns Stoned
Strikers stoned tlx electrical
workers sent to tha plant to re
pair a damaged transformer In
the yard. This action brought a
drastic decree. Mayor Earl L.
Davis Issued a rigid antl-rlotlng
proclamation directing all as
semblageslegal or otherwise j
to disband in two minutes.
The pickets Ignored the edict.

Many owner of new Plymouths are getting
the most out of Plymouth performance with
Hi-Octane gasoline the motor fuel engin

Lachman process to match the improvement
in modern cars. Owners of earlier Plymouths
are also "sold" on the smoother, more
powerful and economical operation with
Hi-Octane. Drive to your neighborhood
Richfield station for a tankful.
Tha guards drew up their ranks,
reloaded tUolr gas guus aud

The atrlkera. pale-faced and
