publlo will find. that the potato
crop available this season at Pa
cific northwest points, will be
much smaller than It has been

The Deschutes country shipped
1,000 carloads of potatoes last
year, he auld. Early prospects
this seusoa were for 600 carloads.-
Williams said the freeze
has cut this estimate to 250 cars,
with not more than 60 cars of
first grade stock unsold.
Williams said - the Klamath
area shipped 6.600 carloads of
potatoes last year and that this
year's early estimate was around
3,600 cars. About 1,000 cars
moved before the freeze, he said,
and after tbe freeze operators
bought around 500 cars at an
average of $1.50 up. The Red
mond grower said the general
opinion Is that not more than
500 cars of first quality potatoes
remain In tbe Klamath sector.

when Informed that Street had
signed with the St. Paul nine.
"Although I knew he was nego
tiating with St. Paul, I had con
fidently expected him to return
here for his third season," Bear
wald said. "There were many
rumors that Street was dissatis
fied during the past season, hut

before the season closed when

Clayton Barber, Springfield, Ore.,
business man and former city
councilman there, died at St.
Charles hospital Tuesday from In
juries suffered while hunting
geese on Upper Deschutes river
Sunday.
Barber and Forrest Sholes, of
Bend, were plunged into the
stream when a rubber boat over
turned. A shotgun was dis
charged at the Bame time, shat
tering Barber's leg. Sholes had
to run a mile to get help from
Vance Barber, brother of Clay
ton. The two carried the injured
man to an automobile and did
not reach a hospital for several
hours.
