Mile Stretch Will Cost

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 21, (A
P) The stale highway commle
ton, at a special meeting here
yesterday, authorised one mile ol
(radlni on the Oregon coast high
way In Douglas county at a cost
of $100,000. The unit will be north
of Gardiner and will be financed
on a co-operative basin.

To Preset-re Indian Art
Indian paintings on a cliff near
the John Day highway, east of
Dayvllle, will be preserved. These
paintings are a part of properly
owned by the Eastern Oregon
Land company. The laud com
pany yesterday deeded to the state,
through the commission, one and
one half acres, an area sufficient
to preserve the markings of the
Aborigines. The paintings are
several miles from the picture
gorge which Is at the bead of the
gorge leading to the world famous
fossil beds of the John Day coun

To eliminate two bad curves on
the Crater Lake highway near
Prospect, the commission ordered
a project of one halt mile grading,
bids to be opened at the March
meeting.
Rejection of the low bid of the
Willamette Construction company
on the Nlmrod-Belknap section of
the VcKenzle highway waa decid
ed on, the bid bond was declared
forfeited and the work will be re
advertlsed at the March meeting.

which time an organisation will
be perfected to conform with the
state organisation of local lead
