bragging never hit It otf very
well together, although Jack
Sharkey has done very well and
Art Shire, the colorful bad boy
ot the Chicago White Sox, ha
achieved some nation-wide pub
licity he otherwise would have
never received.
Ed Smith, the famous sport
authority, once told me a story
Illustrating the theory that fight
ing and talking never mix.
"I was refereelng this par
ticular fight." said Smith, "and
the boy who 1 thought didn't
have a chance and was over
matched, kayoed his opponent In
the third round. After the bout
I aiked him how It happened."
"I'll tell yon." he answered.
"I happened to ride down on the
street car with the bird I fought

He kept telling me bow he was
going to slap down some punk
who didn't have a chance with
him and it made me sore. I al
ways figured that fighting and a

snd I proved it tonight.
Which proves exactly nothing
in the cases ot Mr. Sharkey and
Mr. Shires.
