Brooklyn's famous fireball fling-
held out for 125,000 and got
It, he set an all-time high waer
mark tor pitching salaries.
And the owners of the Robins
eouldn't say they made a bad
investment, for Dazzy was gener
ally acknowledged aa the National
league's greatest pitcher. But
thst was before Mr. Sciatica came
on the scene.
No sooner had the Dazsler af
fixed his name to the record
breaking contract than sharp
pains were felt in that great
right arm. He was of little use
during the training games, and
when the seaaon opened could
be called on only when be felt
like pitching. Which wasn't
often. At mid-season Vance bad
been In approximately a dozen
games, of which be managed to
win six.
But In baseball a player really
sets paid for his previous sea
son's work, and It Is on this rec
ord a player generally bases his
