Crashing tha gate of tha pass
entrance is ona ot tha light oc
cupations around many big lea
gue ball parks. Newspapers fre
quently hare a system ot leaving
a "list" at the gate, including
tha name of the sporting editor.
Occasionally rmart chaps get wise
to this system and go to the pass
ate early and ask tor the "two"
in tha aporta editor's name. Then
when the people tha editor senda
out finally arrive they find their
"tickets" already used up.
Sometimes tans come there an 1
say a certain ball player wants
them let in. Recently at Wrigley
field in Chicago two fellows came
to the pass gate and said that
they'd Just seen Gabby Hartnett
out in front ot the park and he
said to let them In. The man at
the gate happened to know, how
ever, that Hartnett was in the
hospital at that very moment
having bta tonsil removed.
Al Campion, who is "on" the
pass tats at Cubs park also told
ma about an old colored fellow
who earns there on day and pre
sented his weekly ticket on the
Elevtud.
"That' no good here," Al ex
plained. "Well," replied the old fallow,
"It (ays. Use your 'L' card for
the ball games,' don't It?"
Ball players usually are ad
mitted at the pass gates of rival
parka, but I have aeen Lte Mea
dows turned down because he
wore glasses.
