Miss Cornelia Marvin lISS CORNELIA MARVIN.state librarian, has tend ered rcsiirnation to take effect January 1. Miss ' Marvin has directed the affairs of the lilirary since its . modest beginning in 10fl.", and the institution as it stands today is the product of her constructive imagination and "energetic enthusiasm. From the first, she has sought to make the library's resources (limited though they might be) available to it every citizen within the state. Lonely farms and remote villages have enjoyed full library privileges." The Oregon library was the first to adopt the mail order system, and it has been its ambition to meet every demand for in- M1 a formation, on any subjoct, from any resident of the stale. Miss Marvin's report to thr library board shows that !' the state has now eighty-two independent free public! libraries, centralized in the Salem institution, with 706; traveling libraries. 271.30G books for circulation, 657: i volumes of periodicals, 2.",164 volumes of Oregon; ! state documents and nearly 30.000 regular mail order j II patrons. - ' ' ! j, "These are mere figures, measuring the physical growth of the library, but no .statistics can give a true 1; - measure of its service. Miss Marvin has been more than' a librarian. She has been the active head of a lively. ! --interesting school, 'which has had pupils all over the '"state but takes pride in the fact that it has never had,' and never wants to have, a graduate.-tVu'tland Telegram ', Kvuns, mum. uf primary d ! tin' ii i l'uttn.
