'City health officer, said too sliua- Proclamation Early in the history of America when hardship and adversity assailed sturdy settlers of a new land, tho rilfc'iim Fathers conceived the idea of setting aside one day of the 3C3 to giving thanks to Almighty. God for crops which were grown in the shallow soil of New England and for divine aid given them in carving out new homes and cities in n remote wild erness. Graduully this custom spread throughout the colonies and eventually one day, the last Thursday of November, was designated for this purpose. It wus called Thanksgiving. Throughout the history of the United Stales, this holitltiy has been observed each year in every state in the union. Proclamations have been issued by the President of the United States reminding the people of the gen eral prosperity which the nntio::- iias enjoyed during the past twelve months, and by tho Governor of Oregon, calling attention to the fruits of prosperity reaped by this state during the same period. Therefore, in issuing a Thanksgiving proclama tion in Klamath Falls, it seems appropriate to remind Klamath citizens of the material prosperity in this city and county during the past year. While joining with the rest of the nation in giving thanks to God for general prosperity, Klamath citi zens should devote a few reverent thoughts of the strides made by this great basin in recent months and should voice thanks to Him to whom we look for divine guidance and help. In conformity with the proclamation of the Presi dent of the United States hich comes each year as a reminder of our national unity in the continuance of this American custom I, T. C. Watters, mayor of Klamath Falls, do proclaim Thursday, November 29. 1928, as Thanksgiving Day and do hereby set it aside as a public holitltiy. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set nty hand and caused the seal of the city, of Klamath Falls to be htreunto affixed this 27th day of Nov ember, A. D. 1928. T. C. WATTEKS.
