She waa accompanied by Wll
mer Stuts, her pilot, who han
dled the controls of the "Friend
ship" acosa the Atlantic and Lou
Gordon, mechanic on the epochal
trip. They, too, were greeted as
heroes but cheering crowds were
present to see Amelia and the
plaudits were received by her
gracloua smile that won the
hearts of the people.
Following the reception at the
station, the three flyers were
escorted to automobiles at the
saad of the parade which alowly
made Ita way to the city hall.
Dark clouds hovered overhead
but the crowds were unmindful
of the threatening atorm. Amelia
and her air companions were
kept smiling and bowing In ac
knowledgement of the welcoming
cheers. .
