They are California's foremost citizens, and this is not said ht the spirit of flattery. No doubt bankers and cap tains of industry would disagree with this statement, but we are right These Californians are engaged in a peculiar business a business that comes the nearest being a human entity of all the callings of life. This is indicated by an advertisement the United States government is running in the Evenng Herald today. It will be noticed that bids are invited for sites for the new building conforming to the act of congress and its orders a few months ago. But, it will also be noticed, that Uncle Sam asks for donations of sites that might be flying through the air. It is the first time that we remember of the government asking for donations. Perhaps that would be in order in cities where there are factional fights and one sid is anxious to locate a postoffice to enhance its other real estate values. In Klamath Falls we have no factional fights; everyone believes thoroughly in the future of the town, and so far as we have been able to determine, no philanthropist resides here who feels the call of his country to give, a site for the Federal building. It is worth mentioning, however, that sites that are submitted should not be too high in price, else we may delay the erection of the building. Old Uncle Samuel has a very fair idea of what he wants to pay for property ; he has a pretty good knowledge of values. "Roughing it," in this red-blooded age, consists in spending a week at a mountain shack where the plumb ing isn't concealed and there isn't a single full-length mirror. .
