Since that time, formal announcement has been made assuring this project. Iu this section the project was re ported as being; contemplated. A "banner" on the first lumber aectlon stated there waa 4 7 billion feet of pine. This was a misprint as the article shows. Official records show that there ts 57 billion feet of pine which will be manufactured In the Klamath basin and approximately ten billion feet of mixed woods a total of 47 billion feet In all species. The i corrections are made in order to ensure a maximum reliability to the wealth, of tha figures and sta tistics which lend substance to this special edition. FOR SHERIFF PRIMARIES, MAY 18 . EDITORIAL ' , i : v (Continued from puno One) growth and prosperity. , Situated in the center of a big country this ' city automatically takes its place ns a jobbing center. Here mer chandise will be shipped in carload lots and bulk will be broken to serve the zone, of which KlamatrV Falls is essentially the capital and metropolis. . ' v Our abiding faith is in this community. Every other business firm has the same feeling. How different is Klamath now as com pared with a short time back when people came only to remain long enough to make some money and then be on their way. We have reached the home building stage, and the itinerant business man with bombast and temporary residence will not thrive here. He is not wanted. Klamath Falls offers no inducement to such people and frankly we speak for the community when we say to them, "keep moving." We do welcome all legitimate enterprises and all earnest and sincere business people who will come here and call this community their home, take part in civic affairs and show the old-time American pride in their community. To this class of men and women there is the most hospitable welcome awaiting and we assure them they can find no place in the west where sterling' manhood and womanhood will be prized more highly, where homes will be thrown open and club memberships awaiting more than right here. It has often been said that "God makes the country and men ! make the cities." That the country has been wonderfully blest by i an omnipotent hand no one can deny when the wealth of nature's resources is observed. Now, thatNthese resources are in close touch witlv-transportation the key that unlocks all of nature's treasure chests the responsibility, of building a" city rests with the men and women who are to profadly call Klamath Falls their home. This "will be done, for already the spirit of home-building, of, improving the city's appearance, of building proper and adequate school buildings, of developing the social life of the community is very apparent. Business alone will make no community. Coupled with business activity must come the social life developed to a point where friends will be numerous, where relaxation will be positive and where men and women, after a long trip, will cherish the thought of getting back to their home and their friends in Klamath Falls. ' True, without active business all else grows stale. But the activity in commercial lines is assured. It is no longer a guess nor a hope it is a fact. Now, comes the delightful and pleas ant task of all who live here to shape and fashion a community that will stand united, that will uphold a patriotic and loyal spirit to Klamath. s , And this also will be done. The whole program for a fine busi ness city, a delightful socialcity and a permanent home city is now in the making. ' i We submit to you this special edition feeling that you will have ,the same pride in it that those who have been instrumental in pro ducing it for you possess. No editorial staff ever worked harder; no mechanical force ever showed greater loyalty, than have all who have worked on this newspaper which will go forth to the world to impress the public with what the Klamath Basin actually .possesses. To the entire force and to the special writers we extend our appreciation and the appreciation of all who will read this pub lication. . . .''
