VIiy We Cling to Life
Here's the reply a retailer down south, according to
rania (Ga.) Telephone, pave in answer to a re-
for a" check. It's the best digest of the present-
day complex we've seen:
' beg leave to inform you that the present shatter
ed condition of my bank account makes it impossible for
me to send you a check in response to your request for
funds for the "Aged and Decrepit Army Worms."
1Tho state of my present financial condition is due
to the effects of Federal laws, State laws. County laws,
Corporation laws, By-laws, Brother-in-laws, Sister-in-law.
Mother-in-laws, and Out-laws, that have been foist
ed upon an unsuspecting public. Through their various
lawsi I have been held down, held up, walked on, sat
on, fand-bagged, flattened and squeezed until I do not
knoyy where I am, what I am, who I am, or why I am.
'(These laws compel me to pay a merchant tax, capi
tal jtock tax, excess profit tax, income tax, real estate
tax.jproperty tax, state auto tax, city auto tax, gas tax,
watlr tax, light tax, amusement tax, cigar tax, cigaret
tax, j street tax, real tax, school tax, surtax, syntax and
carpet tax.
. fin addition to paying these taxes I am requested
and 'required to contribute to every society and organiza
tion! that the inventive mind of man can organize. To
the pociety of St. John the Baptist, the Woman's Relief,
the Navy League, the Children's Home fund, the Police
man's Benefit, the' Dorcas Society, the Y. M. C. A., the
Y. TfV- C. A., the Boy Scouts, the Jewish Relief, the Bel
gium Relief, the Near' East Relief, the Gold Diggers'
Hotie. Also, every hospital and every charitable institu
tion' in town, the Red Cross, the Black Cross, the White
Crols, the Purple Cross and the Double Cross.
t'The government has so governed my business that
I di not know who owns it. I am suspected, expected,
inspected, disrespected, examined, re-examined, inform
' ed, Required, commanded and compelled until all I know
is that I am supposed to provide an inexhaustible supply
of Aioney for every known need, desire or hope of the
hurian race, and I refuse to donate all I have and go
out and beg, borrow a"nd steal money to give away. I
am cussed, discussed, boycotted, talked to, talked about,
liedj to, lied about, help up, held down and robbed, until
I am nearly ruined, so the only reason I am clinging to
lifells to see what in the H is coming next."

; Dangerous Pilots
' '-Quack flyers are as dangerous as quack doctors, and
flimsy planes as dangerous as ships with rotten hulls.
There are 'certain 'schools of learning long on promises
and1; short on ethics, known as diploma mills in aviation.
Thujr graduates constitute a distinct menace to real air
progress. So far i has not been possible to control the
quaiik pilot at his source; hence it is necessary to stop
himat the field. Beware of the pilot who has no license
and: steer clear of the plane that lacks registration num
erals on its wings."
,This is testimony of F. Trubee Davidson, assistant
secretary of the navy.
iThere are scores of these dangerous flyers through
outthe country, at summer resorts and at roadside avia
tion, fields. Mr. Davidson's remedy, forbidding unlicens
ed (pilots to, fly., and calling for rigid inspection of ma
chines, sounds like the best possible safeguard.

AVe will again buy dressed' turkeys at Christ
mas time, as well as all other kinds of dressed
poultry.
We pay cash and account of our various out
lets on the Pacific Coast, are able to pay the
highest market price.
Turkeys should reach us at Klamath commenc
ing December 15th and we will hold open house
to receive poultry on Sunday, December 18th,
which should be the last day for growers to
bring in their birds. This enables us to have
turkeys arrive at destination in sufficient time
to be sold on the market, as Christmas turkeys
must be on the market earlier than Thanksgiv-'
