The Christmas entertainment at

of Mrs. ;-. S. Ford was :i splendid
entertainment, well enactml ana

keeping time with them to ;.he sing

Miss Elizabeth Gaolson in a green
paper costume as the Christmas tree,
followed by Miss King ail in white
and carrying a star, was the Cori3t
mas star, then a lot of little girls
in long colored dresses with high
pointed red caps were the candles,
then came Dorothy Dollarhide as a
Christmas package, Wayne McDona'i
as the Caristmas guest, and Mor
ris Dollarhlde as a huge stick of
candy followed by Olarissa Opperud
ifth a sliver bell calling in the

band ot young girls wearing white
robes and white wings came in and
sang around the little girl's bed,
then the entire ensemble saag beau

WHAT'S SMART
Formal clothes for eve
ning play a larger part
in American life
America is just coming out of
fl the pioneer stage in many ways.
Tho pioneer, while ne vaa :on
qucrin? the wilderness, enjoyed a
gooa many things we now can lux
uries wild turkeys, mallard ducks,
uall, grouse, venison; lobsters, ter
rapin. But he lacked many of the ameni
ties of life notably clothes. They
were hard to get, so ho made him
self believe he didn't want them.
For hundreds of years, the Eng
lishman and the Frenchman, living
in countries wnere the pioneering
was finished a thousand years ago,
have been learning to play. Social
recreation the dinner, the opera,'
me saion, became an art. Clothes
developed along with other refine
ments. There were clothes for
sport, for lounging, for travel, for
business and for formal wear.
For at least a generation America
has led the world In wealth and
material comforts, but the pioneer
spirit died hard. A dozen years ago
a jew men piayea goir, and they
played It in their old clothes. Now
thousands play it and dress for Jt.
Comparatively recently few men
"dressed for dinner." Now there
are many public restaurants and
hotels where di-ners who wear
rormal clothes are In the majority.
No one would think of going to eve
ning affairs In society without them.
Full dress, of course, 1b the cor
rect thing for strictly formal eve
ning wear, but the dinner jacket Is
overwhelmingly popular among col
lege men and young men generally.
The style scouts of Hart Schaff-
gr & Marx tell us that the double
easted dinner Jacket Is tha now est
