GOLDEN RULE IN EUROPE
Things are really moving in Europe, which Americans
lately thought so hopeless. There is real progress. In
credible as it seems, the promise held forth by the
Locarno treaties is in the way of fulfillment..
A note from the Allies to Germany recognizes that the
latter country has largely fulfilled their demands .already,
and has given satisfactory pledges on the issues still
pending. Wherefore the Allies state that they will be
gin the military evacuation of Cologne on Dec- 1, and
will abolish the allied commission of military control
in Germany on Feb. 1, if Germany continues doing her
part. r
The military control of Germany will then be taken
oyer by the League of Nations, in which Germany her-
self will be represented. Then, instead of the force and j
bluster that have characterized the situation since the j
armistice, there will be merely official observation by !
the League representatives of German compliance i
with military conditions of the Versailles treaty. Com- j
mon council and publicity will take the place of coercion.
Whether this is treating Germany more generously
and mildly than she deserves is a question that it is
no longer profitable to discuss. When France and
Belgium, chief sufferers of German aggression, forego
hatred and recrimination in favor of conciliation and co
operation, there is no reason why less aggrieved allies ;
and associates should not do likewise.
The spirit shown recently on both sides is really an I
astonishing development. What it amounts to is ap-!
plied Christianity in international relations. The Chris
tian world has seldom or never tried that. But some
thing may come of it, if the elder statesmen keep the
courage of their new faith. Lesser folks have been tell
ing them for years that Christianity was the only solution
for what ailed Europe. The Golden Rule may be the ;
most potent "formula after all and the most profitable

only method by which the National
Tuberculosis association solicit their
funds to carry on jheir national pro
gram of health education and their
fight againbt tuberculosis.
How is this seal sale carried on?
A. Every year during the month
of December, school children, in ev
ery sehooi all over the United States
are given these penny stamps to 3ell.
Why are children asked to aid In
this campaign?
A. Children are the most suscep
tible to contract tuberculosis, (Sta
tistics show that the death rate from
tuberculosis is higher than any other
between the ages of 10 to 40 years;
therefore every child should he told
why he or she is helping to sell these
Xmas seals and what will help pre
vent the children from contracting
