Six snw-tooth summits of the liili

l:or concentrated punishment of
motor, brakes and entire chassis, no
test as severe -as this could be found
elsewhere in America.
This 730 miles of heartbreaking
grades, of snow, ice anil frozen, rut

an average speed of 23.72 miles an
hour.
The radiator and hood of the Oak

A check at the finish showed one
quart of oil consumed by the motor;
one quart of water completely refilled
the radiator, and the gasoline average
w as 18.5 miles per gallon.

Many Coyotes
Being Killed
(Special to The Herald)
YItEKA. Calif., Nov. 21. When
the $5 bounty on coyotes became
effective November 6. ranchers
turned their attention toward era
dicating the pest from Siskiyou and
sculps are beginning to arrive at
the office of W. J. Neilon, county
clerk.
What havoc the animals are do
ing in the county Is indicated by
a coyote's attack on the chicken
house owned by Mrs. H. W. .Mitchell
at Mt. Dome last week, where, be
fore the animal had been killed by
u ranch hand's well aimed shoV it
hud slaughtered if chickens and
six turkey's, scattering the chickens
over the yards.
The bounty lias not been in ef
fect for several years and during
this period, the animals are said
to have greatly increased in num
ber. - Klamath county has been
trying to exterminate the pest
through state and federal control
but the Oreguui authorities fre
rjuently declared that the coyotes
used Siskiyou as a breeding ground
and then raided the Oregon side of
the line. This situation will be
eliminated, it is said, by the county
system.
Coyotes are said to be particul
arly troublesome in Shasta valley
and one rancher near Hig Springs
recently declared that his nightly
feel was being badly broken by the
yowling of the animals near a salt
lick In the vicinity.
