Former Resident of this city
Dies at His San Fran
cisco Estate
Tlx- following announcement of
the' death nf Richard M. Hotaling,
which occurred til (he homo of the
jnuntigor of the. Hotaling estate, in
Shu Francisco, last Saturday, is
taken from Hie San Francisco Ex
nmlner: Hlchard M. totaling, one of the
moyl picturesque figures San Fran
clao hail ever known. Is dead.
In a quiet room nt the Lombard
street home of William B. Bayers,
manager of the Hotaling estate,
the colorful career that made Rich
ard Hotaling "front page copy" for
the San Francisco newspapers for
more than two derades. came to an
end a few minutes before noon
Saturday.
No blood kin stood by the death
bed. Only three person were
there, his sister-in-law, Mrs. A. I'.
Hotaling, Jr.; his physician. Dr.
tiuido Cnglieri, and Sayers. Death
was not unexpected. The bitter
battle Hotaling had waged for days
against pneumonia had sapped his
strength beyond the limit.
. Death came shortly after the ter
mination of seven years of litiga
tion over the 16,000.000 estate of
his father litigation in which ltich
ard and his sister-in-law on one side
were arrayed against Ills mother.
Mrs. Lavinin Hotaling. and his bro
ther. Fred, and Fred's wife. Noni
of these-came to his bedside anil $
almost alone, Richard Hotalln?
passed.
Funeral services were held at the
home of Mrs. A. P. Hotaling. 190 1
Franklin street. Cremation followed
in accordance with the wish of Mr.
Hotaling.
