TROY, Ala., Oct. 26.
Residents of many portions
of Pike, Barbour and Cren
shaw counties today were
endeavoring to brine; order
out of chaos that resulted
from a tornado which claim
ed a known toll of 17 lives,
injured many, rendered hun
dreds homeless and left
thousands of dollars damage
in its wake.
Troy Red Cross forces,
and local physicians were
ministering to the needs of
the injured and were assist
ing the stricken people to
orient themselves. A relief
fund was subscribed here
yesterday afternoon and
made available to the relief
workers who went into the
field.
The tornado seemed to
have its origin in Crenshaw
county, where it swept down
with tremendous fury, tear
ing its way across the bread
th of Pike county and on
eastward Into Harbour, when- I'

pandemonium were the sights that greeted two police
patrolmen who answered a hurry-up call to stop a "rough
house" in a Broad street dive last night.

A heavy touring car swerved off the highway near
Altamont at 5 o'clock Sunday morning, and crashed into
a telephone post. That post broke off at the bottom,
and toppled over as if it were tinder.
Four bovs were in the automobile. Thye were N. Z.
Matins, who was driving, 0. B. Hammond and two oth
ers whose names the authorities could not secure. The
young men were returning home from a dance at Bon
anza and were speeding, according to State Traffic

Faber's store at Central Point, near
here, was robbed early Sunday morn-
jing. The robbers secured J50 worth
