IT Is difficult to analyze the. mnr
rlago question of tljday. Girls nre
prone to snap their fingers at the
little God of lovo. TOey arc the
ones who havo revolutionized the
entire outlook upon matrimony be
cause so many have entered the
business, pr::essloncl and education
al fields and have made gol too.
It does not make fhem less lovable
I do not thing, hut It gives them
leas time for sentiment.
They .are absorbed in the one
great never-ceasing grinding mill of
the wcrld and are likety to welsh
every side in the question not al
low emotion to have a place but
be guided by reason.
The old-fashioned girl Is almost a
back number now. but this state of
affairs had to come, so we may
well ao.-ept Its phllasophically. There
have been divers cud suniay opin
ions, expressed regarding time, age
and conditions regarding matrimuny.
Some have made the assertion that
the modern girl should wed a nun
at least twenty-years her senior, be
cause the modern girl demands more
In the way of luxuries and costly
whims than the average young man
Juat starting In life can provide;
others say no, let the couplc.be cf
the same age, and let them grow
old together. And again there are
those iwho say let not the man who
admires a rich mentality in a
woman the kind t'-iat will k-:ep
pace with his own marry a tooih
who Is one day- younger; ra'Jier
let her be older, because she will
then not lag behind. It makes 'it
tie difference how agresiveiy ncv
a woman may be, she will n -be
so new that she ivlll arit want
to marry some time. The pages of
history are replete with romances
and the world is richer because of
them, for t!he ground work at its
wonderful store bouse of treasurers
in art, song, poetry and story
which eaoh epoch proudly claims
Its own, ba3 'bedo buildeJ at the
Instigation of King Cupid, fcr whoso

ine tact tnat many girls earu
salaries equal to the same earned
by the young man whom tiey at
tract proves something of a stumbl
ing block In the path of marriage.
Girls crave Independence in money
matters, and as the last few years
have brought about a very notice
able advance In the prices of every
thing, including wearing apparel, as
well as creative comforts, they
have found a way t'j make life
smoother and are holding excellent
positions, where rney have proven
their worth, while retaining their
individuality. Every girl on earth
Is born with the love of home and
the maternal lnstlnot. Their qual
ities may be latent, but they are
there just the same.
The womanly girl can, whether
she be earning a salary or be
sheltered and petted in her orvn pa
ternal home, take up life with its
many-sided problems, its vexations
aod cares, and make the man of her
choice supremely happy.
Some pessimists of late raave de
clared that in the modern marriage
there i no romance. It is not the
love that glows with romance that
makes this staid
.around. The love
ways played an important part in
the lives of men. She has cheerea
the tempermontal mind in 'oours of
unrest alad depression, she has fre
quently relieved the sensitive na
ture froim the domestic responsibil
ities with v.'aieh it was unable to
oope, she has been the counsellor
and confident to whom genius has
been able to pour out its inner
most ambitions and alms.
As the world grows older and toe
times change, there is a noticeable
difference in the marriage and wed
ding customs. There are few as
tonbations nnd brilliant claurvh wed
dngs. The majority of the brides
of today prefer a simple home wed
ding, and many accompanied by
their parents hie themselves to the !
