before Pecember 1 the project will
be completed.
Yesterday afternoon contract for
the Job was let to II. F. Yleorv, for
l,SZ9.SS, nearly ,00 under the es
ttmate by County Engineer Frank Z.
Howard.
Mr. Yieory plans to start work on
the project Immediately in order
that It may be completed before the
heavy winter rains and snows sit in.
Three other bids were received by
the county court. Stebbins and
Propst submitted at a bid of $4890:
J. A. Maddox, a bid of ?4?00: and
J. T. Logan a bid of fS400. nearly
twice the amount of Yicory's bid.
The grading job found its source
in a number of petitions to the coun
ty court and arguments advanced by
delegations from Ohiloquin and Asp
grove. The county court investigated
the proposition, found it to bo neces
sary, and found the means to finance
the job.

92 persons were present. Mrs.
Charles Thomas and Mrs. Hammoll
were elected delegates to the state
parent-teachers' meeting in Port
land the latter part of the mohth.
Supervision of the school play
ground and plans for a sunset clos
ing hour at the playground were
discussed by the members. Visiting
women fropj other school districts
of the- city were present.

ward of the county jail here today
under $3000 bond as a material
witness in the case of tho murder of
Thomas Dovery, Kelso editor, who
was slain June 19. Deputies in the
absenco of Sheriff Clarke Studo
baker refused to stato what con
nection the woman had with th
case. Apparently no effort had been
made to raise a bond.
