"Why do you not now use tbc

when Johnson said he wished the
Alturns route to give a quicker

Rail Hearing
W. H. Robertson 25 page 1. 2
"I can't see how the Northern lines
can lose. To me, their case appeared
Impregnable."
This constitutes the opinion of W.
II. Robertson of the Klamath Super
ior laundry, who returned from Port
land last night, after spending sev
eral days In attendance at the Klam
ath railroad hearing.
"I was suprlsed at the showing the
Northern lines made," Mr. Robertson
said. "Their caae was well worked
up and they seemed to have forecast
every move."
"One of the most remarkable wit
nesses was John S. Stevens, former
chief engineer of the Great Northern
and the chief engineer In charge of
construction of the Panama canal.
He traveled. I am told, across the
continent to tell at the hearing of
James J. Hill's hopes concerning the
extension of the Oregon Trunk to
Klamath. Nobody knew he was com
ing. It was a voluntary act on his
part, prompted by his desire to see
the project which he started many
years ago completed."
