Fiber Container Fight
Under Way In Lumbering
Districts Of Washington
ANACOHTKS, Wash. Next to lumber- and fish, if not
leading the latter, dairy products rank in importance in
northwest Washington, and local storied of huge ship

ports in fiber containers, has aroused considerable dis
cussion and awakened the district to the importance of
curtailing as far as possible the use of the fiber con
tainer, not on yfor condensed milk but for all other com

Builds Nest
In Tall Tree
EUGENE. Hoisting heavy pieces
of timber 50 or 60 foot up into a
tree to build a "crow's nest" at his
station on Gold Point in the Cascade
national forest was the task which
has just been completed by Frank
Verdler, forest fire lookout on that
point.
Mr. Verdier's station is surround
ed by tall trees and it was necos
sary for him to climb a tree each
day and cling to its branches while
he took observations. Ho conclud
ed that he could do better than thut
nnd sot about building himself a
platform near tho top of a tall fir
whero he had a good view of all
surrounding mountains.
Single-handed. Mr. Verdior hoist
ed tho timbers by means of ropes
and securely spiking them to the
tree, laid a floor of small saplings.
It was a long and lnborous task, he
told Supervisor Nelson F. Macduff
yesterday, but It was finally com
pleted a short time beforo ho was
called oft duty n few days ago.
A steel tower was ordered some
tlmo ago for tho lookout station on
Saddle Blanket mountain but aa It

until next year, said Supervisor Mac
duff. Tho tower will be 60 feot
high. Tho concrete foundation for
tho tower Is already in.
