drove home the faet that Malin refuses to be torn
asundei by internal strife: that community betterment
akes precedence over. personal gain.

MALIN STANDS PAT
Klamath Falls could have learned a real lesson at
Malin last night. It could have learned that community
solidarity is not a thing ephemeral. It could have learn
ed that railroad intrigue and double dealing wiU not
l.'lind the eyes nor dim the hopes of a determined group
of men.
Yes, it could have learned these things and much more.
It would have learned that Malin regards ah, ever so
lightly the honeyed promises of the Southern Pacific;
that it regards each succeeding pledge of the Southern
Pacific as so much "blah," and that it is now willing
to cast its lot with the Oregon Trunk, -no matter What
the outcome might be.
Yes, Klamath Falls could have received an educa
tion at Malin last 'night. It should have been there
some of these 14 prolific "signers" among the lumber
men to see just how an attempted Southern Pacific
"stampeded" gets by with a group of hard working fann
ers who have the courage of think for themselves.
The stage was all set. The meeting was hurriedly
called. In the offering just on the outer .frings sat
the spokesman for the Southern Pacific. It was to be a
Southern Pacific meeting. The endorsement given the
Oregon Trunk some months ago was to be cast aside.
Malin was to put itself on record for one railroad alone
the Southern Pacific.
Yes, the stage was set, the curtain was rung up
but the actors refused to play their parts. It was a
home talent production and the stage director gummed
up the works. Malin just simply wouldn't follow the
well planned script.
Those folks out there are a home-loving, deep think
ing and serious minded people. But they possess a well
defined spark of humor as well. They had been gather
ed together like so many pawns as the railroad hir
ings foolishly thought to play their part in a railroad
tragedy. But they turned it into a comedy a laugh-
