County Receives Many Of
fers for Midland Market
Road Project
Another county road project the
last one which will be undertaken
this year was started on its way
Saturday afternoon when bids were
opened for the Midland Market road
grading contract from Miller hill
school to Midland, a distance of C.5
miles.
Contract for the job will not be
awarded until this afternoon or next
Wednesday, owing to the absence of
two members of the county court in
Portland.
J. B. Reed was low bidder with an
offer of S15.422.10. Stebbins and
Rocca submitted an offer of $15,
746.96. Other bidders on the pro
ject wore H. P. Vicory, $16,612.26,
and W. D. Miller Construction com
pany, $17,231.55.
Bids were also opened on the Har
pold dam bridge project, a span to
be constructed across Lost river west
of Bonanza.
Bids on this project were divided
Into three units, ono for abutments
or stone abutments, the second for
the brtdgo approaches, and the third
for tho bridge.

Construction company bid $2820;
J. A. Maddox $3600; and H. F. Vic
ory, $4500; and the Porter Construc
tion company $3860.
Although the low bidder for the
stone masonry for tlie abutments,
Julian Oss, may lose the job because
he did not enclose a certified check
In the amount of five per cent of his
bid.
Oss bid $1732.50; Stebbins and:
Rocco, $1775; and J. A. Maddox,
$2730.
J. A. Maddox was tho lowest bidder
for the construction of approaches
to the bridge, with an offer of but
$2079. H. F. Vicory was but $21
higher with a bid of $2100; Steb
bins and Rocco bid $2374.
Maddox was the only bidder for
the construction of the new bridge
with an offer of $1350 lor the con
struction of the frame structure.
Maddox stated in his bid that unless
he could be awarded the contract
on all three units of the bridge con
struction, he would withdraw his
bids.
COURT AGAIN IN
SESSION TODAY
The quiet which has surrounded
tho circuit court room during the
past 30 days was broken this morn
ing by Circuit Judge Leavitt as he
opened court for business.
During the month of August, the
court was adjourned for summer
vacation. It was Uie intention of
the judge to sign a flock of judg
ments and decrees that have been
piling up during tho vacation.
The first criminal trial is state
vs. Way, charged with first degree
murder, which will open Tuesday,
September 8.
