A great city today paid tribute
to a groat ball player when Detroit
officially extolled Tyrus Raymond
Cobb.
At Nnvin field this afternoon it
wan Cobb Day, with the 4S-yoar-old
veteran of 20 American league cam
paigns standing bareheaded at the
plato and shaking hands with thou
sands of fans who passed in lino by
him.
Tonight he will be honored at a
great banquet and presented with a
$1,000 gift, paid for by the city of
Detroit by a vote of the council at
tho suggestion of Mayor John W.
Smith.
