the city last night, malaria having
forced him to give up his position
with the Swain Lumber company at
Oroville. CallL
It Is believed that a few months
residence here will be sufficient to
rid his syst'-m of the disease, one of
Hie biggest drawbacks to life in the
Oroville district, where malarial raos

TOPSY REPORTED
A small slash fire was burning
today aear Topsy grade In the log
ged off section owned by the Kes
terson Lumber Co., was reported
todaiy by the look out on top of
Chase mountain.
Investigation revealed that the
fire was Jilaced under control and
that danger to adjacent timber was
eliminated.
The Kesterson mill Is located in
the soufh western part of the
county.
Training Hours at
Race Track Are Set
Two more strings of running
horses arrived at the Fair Grounds
Friday, those of "Shorty" Cutn
mings which have been in spring
training at Gold Hill, and those of
Ray HurptaV who is well known in
the county, having run his string at
many rodejs and Couaty Fairs in
Klamath and adjoining counties. ,Tae
track presents a busy picture of fly
ing hoofs, nervously moving ears
and mettlesome steeds between the
hours of 5 and 9 a. m. each morn
ing. Superintendent Russ Aubre
has set the hours for the various
uses of tho track. The first four
hours of the day are for running
horses; 9 to 10:30 a. m. for rjie
harness try-outs and from 10:30 ro
2. p. m. for the racing nutos after
Monday August 31st. It was ne
cessary to make this particular time
of drny for the racing cars as the
track must be dragged after oach
session with tho speed wagon. Alter
4 p. m. the horsemen usually walk
their strings for a mil 6 or so, as the
.day begins to cool.
