written by his widow.
The story sayM: "At tbe time of
bis death, Mr. Bryan had stearted
on the frame work of his recollec
tions. He had intended to devote
to the writing Of this chronicle of
American life for the past half cen
tury, the rest of the summer and
fall, and In Cftct all the time up to
bis leaving for the Holy Land in
February of iB.
"He had dictated in the rough to
his secretary, W. B, Thompson, the
ilrst draft, were among the material
of tho memoirs. Thompson now
has these on yellow typewritten
sheets. The headings Include such
copies as the great commoner's
childhood and youth, the Chicago
convention of IK'Jt;, the Baltimore
convention of 1012, his work with
peace treaties while he was secre
tary of state and one or two other

giving the general trend of events,
rather than the detailed particu
larized account the commoner had
expected to make by amplifying the

which Mrs. Bryan will have at her

commoner passed through Chatta-
! nooga Wednesday morning enroute
I to Arlington with the bier of her
I husband, she told friends that she
intended to give her attention to
! these memoirs as soon as conditions
permitted. She said she would be
aided in the writing by her daugh
; ter, Mrs. Ruth Owen, and the lat
j ter's hubband. Major Reginald
Owen. Mrs. Bryan Is a gifted
writer and for many years as-
sisted her husband 'n his literary
; endeavors. She Is thf author of the
j biography of Mr. Bryan which in
j troduces the collected volume of
(Ills speeches. She Is also the au
, thor of the account of the Baltimore
democratic convention of 1912, as
throughout their married life she
was in intimate touch with the in
nermost details of her husband's
political career, with tho train of
! thoughts leading to his notable po
litical decision, with his signific
ant conversations and with his cor
respondence and files.
