cancer. W will havo no now light
whatever on the treatment of this
ailment. Cancer, however, llko ttib-eri'-iiloHin,
Is a widespread disease,
and many people are Interested In
anything which looks as though It
might ufford a hope for cure. There
fore, with tho publicity which has
been given the discovery of this
(jerm, It will bo odd If a number of
cancer "cures" do not spring tip
which will sele on this pretext to
sell their harmful wares to the help
less victim,
For all so-called "cancer cures"
are harmful. Kven If they do not
make tho condition worse, the delay
caused by their tmo permits many a
caifcer to reach a stage where noth

of getting well.
Tho best advice that cun bo given
now Is this: for every growing
lump, unhealing sore or persistent
bleeding, consult a reputable phy
sician at once. More than that, have
a regular, thorough examination
onco a year. If the physician finds
cancer, and advises Its- removal, do
not delay!- Above, all, do not try
"cancer cures" they are all useless,
and merely give tho patient a false
sense of security, while tho cancer

Plan To Improve
Gun Fire Devised
HONOLULU, (IF) A scheme' for
taking ballistic wind, to bo used in
correcting the ranges of guns In
night firing, has been devised by
Major John If. Hood of the 15th
Coast Artillery at Fort Kamehnm
eha here, and is announced to have
passed successful tests Jn improving
the accuracy and precision of fire.
.Portable searchlights, capable of
revolving both vertically and hori
zontally, were trained on a pilot as
cension balloon 2C . inches In dia
meter as it rose. The speed and "di
rection were complted, as is done
at the meteorological station during
the day. This is said to have been
the first tilne the idea of tracking
a small balloon at night had been
tried. :': " 1
! The experiment was carried out
successfully by tho operator of the
light the first tiirie and without field
g I a b b e s. Atmospheric conditions
were adverse, with low clouds and a
heavy wind velocity; nevertheless
the balloon was tracked for 1,500
yards. Military experts said that
with .hotter equipment it could be
tracked as high as 3,000 yards.
