Miss Thirza Anderson is in Klam
ath Falls this week, where she was
operated upon Tuesday morning tor
the removal of her tonsils at tho
Valley hospital. Her mother, Mrs.
R. N. Anderson, is staying in tho
Falls this week.
Tuesday afternoon a very suc
cessful baby clinic was held in the
Merrill high school. There were
20 babies, nine girls and eleven
boys. These babies made an ex
cellent showing. This clinic was
held by the Merrill group of the
Klamath County Health association
and was conducted by Sr. Kewsom
and Miss Fricke of the Klamath
county health unit.. There were
eleven babies without defects and
with . minor defects which can be
easily remedied. Tbe Merrill group
assisting were Mrs. R. L. Dalton,
Mrs. C. H. Carleton, Mrs. Ed Har
wood, Mrs., R. C. Anderson, Mrs.
C. M. Merritt and Miss Bee Scog
gins.; Thet following babies were
examined at tbe clinic: Charles
Ourkee, Larena Rambo, Harold and
Jerold Stevenson, Alden, Lois and
Lloyd Vernon. Lewis, Mildred Jean
and Betty Lee Merrill, Roger, Bur
dette and William Malcolm . Dun
nington, Edna . Whisler, Joseph
Charles Faringbam, Maxine Barks,
Vernon Leonard Bowman, Roberta
Fruits, Warren Wesley Walker,

day from Portland, where he had
been to attend the International
Christian Endeavor association.

and Miss Mary Taylor will visit
friends and relatives in tbe Wil
liamette valley before returning.
Rev. C. C. Hulet Jeft Tuesday to
attend the meeting of synod, which
was held in Eugene.
Several lamb buyers have been
in Merrill this week. They are of
fering 10 i cents tor choice lambs.
Dan Estermand, representing C.
Swanuon & Son of Sacramento, was
in Merrill Wednesday. Mr. Nelson
lamb buyer from San Jose, Calif.,
was also in Merrill during the week.
Mrs. Geo. W. Offield and daugh
ter Winnifred spent Thursday in
Klamath Falls. ,
Paul Lewis was In tbe Falls
Wednesday.
N. E. Woodhousc was In Klam
ath Falls Thursday.
Merrill has been sweltering under
the hot weather of the pant week.
If it continues it will prove harm
ful to grain crops especially on dry
land but benoficial to the alfalfa.

ducting a pool room adjoining the
Merrill hall, bas leased the hall
and is having It fitted up and will

of It. L. Dalton of Merrill and W.

terian church met at the home of
Mrs. C. M. Merritt Wednesday after

Handled By Sexton
After an absence qf sevaral weeks,
Frank W. Sexton, county club lead
er, returned home last night only to
find that in addition to his regular
duties ho had inherited tho job of
county agent during the absence of
C. A. Henderson in Owens valley.
Although a ' number of projects
that had been planned by Mr. Hen
derson wll have to bo discontinued
awing to his' departure, Mr. Sexton
will attend to the more nressinir
business of tho county agent's office.
Mr. Sexton has been conferring I
with county, audits of othor Oregon
counties.

torney's office soon, and I would

"I didn't answer him. but turned
around and talked to some other
men in tho room. Later in thu day.
I met the governor and ha attain
said, 'Would you accept the position
Of district attorney If proffered?'
"To which 1 unswercd that I was
not looking for the Job. "But that
isn't tho question. Elliott.' tha gov
ernor said. 'The question Is will
you accept?'
"So that Is the inside of my ap
pointment to the office of district
attorney. I was not seeking the job
and agreed to accept the position
only after earnest solicitation on the
part of tho governor."
Mr. Elliott steadfastly refuted to
give an inkling as to who will be
appointed deputy district attorney.
'"I wish that the appointment
was over with now," be said, "but
it is bettor to he safe than sorry.
So I shall 'proceed slowly."
