The hearings will begin at Chi
cago September 1, before Chairman
Aitchlson of tho commission.
Petitions for Increases were filed
as briefs in answer to the commis
sion's inquiry under the Hoch
Smith congressional resolution
which dlrertcd a revision of tho
general rate structure if the com
mission found such a step neces
sary. The' commission declared It
! should first confer with the west
ern districts for tho reasons: To
determine what products of agri
culture increasing livestock are af
fected by depression.
"To determine whether any
rates, fares or charges, either ou
particular classes or kinds of com
modities of classes of traffic in
particular sectlous or between par
ticular localities in the western
district or otherwise may lawfully
he used or required to be in
creased and also to what extent
ii order to compensate for such
rate reductions, if any, as may be
found proper.
