bing of Ben H. Hinds In the notor
ious "Black Pelican," dire early
this moraing. Hinds is at the Klam
ath General hospital suffering from
three or four gashes inflicted with
a kuife.
When tho police arrived, last
night. Hinds was unconscious. His
assailant Has not to be found. From
wifcit little could be gleaned by po
lice officers. It appeared tbat the
stabbing arose from an argument
about whiskey. Hinds, according
to officers, has served time for
bootlegging.
"I can't help him out if he won't
talk." Chief of -Police Loucks .said
this morning, after trying vainly
to obtain the identity ot Hinds'
assailant. "I tried to get something
out of him when he regained con
sciousness, but his story was so dis
connected th!at I gave up".
According to hospital authorities
this morning. Hinds' condition Is
good and his' recovery is assured.
Small Apartment
House Will Rise
. Construction will start soon on a
new apartment house' on Klamath
avenue near Link River bridge, it
became known today. The new
building, which will contain seven
two-room apartments, will cost ap
proximately 110,000. It is being
constructed by the Saw Mill Con
struction company, of which ' F. Hill
Hunter is president. It will bo
built on tho lake front, and extend
ing from the rear of the hotel out
into the lake, piles will be driven
which will be used to secure logs,
dredges and barges, used in the
business of the Saw Mill Construc
tion company.
