The New Mode Introduces Pastel Chiffon in Combi

In a season where tho mode ic
true to IU selection of chiffon and
laces for Its formal gowns. It is
only upon occasions that sn eve
ning ensemble of some distinct and
picturesque type Is seen.
The chiffon evening gown in Its
delicate and appealing pastel tones
Is a delight to the feminine eye for
Its youthful ctuirm. and appeal, and
It Is very Beldom that even, crops
silk Is used except as a founda
tion to Infringe on the modo for
fluttering chiffons.
Blanche Sweet, In the First Na
tional film. "His Supercme Mo
ment," wears an evening gown
which Is perfectly adapted to the
season's smartest evening enscm
Wes. Panels at the side, longer than
the skirt, float gracefully from a
Ughtly outlined waist, and are dec
ereted to give the brilliance which
Paris favors, with silver braid.
A sheatblike slip of crepe silk Is
very simply cut, and possesses a
low, round neckline and is without j t
sleeves. The bottom of tho skirt (
which Is different in its treatment i

Tho floral decoration, which adds
so much to the beauty of the formal
frock, is placed low at the hips at
the left side of the waist,
Tho vogue for adding either a
bouquet, or a garland, or cascading
groups of flowers, Is a firmly es
tablished treatment of the evening
gown. It is frequently used to add
a note of color and often serves as :
the only decoration of the gown..
The scarf, which is used alike on
sports or forma) frock, Is used in
unique fashion by Miss Sweet. It
not only harmonizes with the treat
ment of oddly placed panels; but
it also serves as a decorative
shoulder scarf. It fastens from the
left shoulder and drapes with, cas
ual grace either about the neck, or
is hung about the arm. i
Win tho season still necessitat
ing a llcht covering about the neck,
tho chiffon scarf is an accepted ac
cessory. When attached to the
gown it generally matches In tone,
hut wh?n worn separately a con
t often lends smartness, as
docs tho scarf of printed chiffon la
floral design. '
