THE RAILROAD RECEPTION
"Next Saturday night can be made a turning point in
the history of Klamath Falls and Klamath county. A
party of the most powerful railroad officials in America,
wilj be in the city, coming here for the purpose of mak-t
ing a personal inspection of this city and surrounding
territory. With them will be representatives of some
of the largest lumber and timber operators in the nation.
lit should be made the occasion of the greatest mani
festation of cordiality , and good will in the county's
history. Every resident who is desirous of a greater Klam
ath' county should show that desire by being present
a$, the White Pelican hotel in. person. These visitors
should be impressed with the fact that they are welcome
as guests of the city and doubly welcome as developers
of this great inland empire. Every nook and corner of
the county should be represented by delegations and a
spirit of cordiality should be shown that will let them fully
understand that they and their enterprises will receive a
warm welcome and fair treatment in this county-
..They will understand that the motive back of this
demonstration is a selfish one.. They will understand
that the reason we want them here is because we want
this country developed, realizing that such development
will put dollars in every pocket in the county. They
will understand that we realize their various enterprises
are coming here , because there is the opportunity to
make money on the investment. Starting from the same
- common point, it Will not be difficult for both sides to
reach a cordial relationship that will be beneficial to all
concerned.' ' " '
:The reception that it to be held at the White Pelican
hotel is not to be a formal one the proletariat, as well
as bourgoise and .capitalist,' will be welcome. Each
should be well represented as the interest of the one is
as vital as the interest of the other.
jThe Northern Lines have come to Klamath Falls with
out quibble or trade. . Already this city has been desig
nated as an important division point. The probability
that important repair shops will be located within the
city is very strong. With their coming big things will
develop and Klamath Falls, and with it Klamath county,
will be an important point upon the map of the nation.
These men are just as human as any of us. If we show
them that the good will of the community is with them
without reservation ; if we give them to understand that
. when they come they will meet with the helpful co
operation their enterprise deserves; if, by our presence
and enthusiasm, they will see that this community wants
them and will welcome them, it will have the effect we
all desire, and will, return to us handsome dividends in
the way of development and expansion that will ' in
truth, as well as in fancy, make Klamath Falls "The
Spokane of Oregon."
HATS OFF TO MALIN
Community spirit counts. If you want to get some
where, as a community, you must stand together in
everything. Here in Klamath county we have one out
standing, shining example Malin. Whenever anything
comes up that may be of benefit to that section , of the
county, they talk it over, iron out their differences, go
into meeting and stand as a unit- (
Monday at 2 o'clock it occurred to someone in Malin
that it should be represented on the county unit school
board and the name of John Reber was suggested. By
five o'clock 107 votes were cast, and the result stood
106 for Mr. .Reber and 1 vote for Mr. George Offield,
who has represented that section of the county on the
bpard for the past year. If the matter had been thought
of s,ooner, a larger vote would have been cast with about
the same unaniminity.
'A community that will stand shoulder to shoulder in
this fashion must progress. This vote shows that the
people who live there are big in every sense of the
wford and Klamath county is fortunate in having within
its borders , a community settled by residents who have
the cohesive quality of standing together,
i Let us follow the example of Malin.
