ews Of The
Klamath Country
e5Vferrill High otes
Tho school your Just passed has
boon a very successful one in re
gard to athletics in Merrill High.
Ot .tho four major sports taken
part in by tho school, throo wore
cleau cut victories for Merrill.
l.nst. tall the soccer team went
through Its schedule without a
slnglo detent winning each of both
games from Henley, Klamath Falls
and Malln. There were no marked
individual stars In these games but
consistent team work overcame all
opposition.
In basketball we suffered but two
defeats, once at Medford nud once
tram Kinninth Falls, the Falls game
beiug lost by a close score ot It! to
IT. The third game played ut Pell
rau City demonstrated tho superior
ity of tho Merrill boys over Klam
ath aud won for us the 11 lover cup
for county championship.
In baseball we fulled to win, ow
ing largely to the late stnrt duo to
the prolonged basketball season.
Hut in tho track and field meet
Merrill got back to form and won
with a total ot 67 points against our
nearest Competitor's 45. A silver
loving cup was the trophy of this
event, thus making us two cups won
for track, Merrill having won the
county field and track meet last
year.
Throughout all our athletic activi
ties tho boys have shown a spirit of
! cooperation and sacrifice of personal
I gain for team work, which account
ed In no small part for our victories.
! Our victories are largely due to
the splendid coaching ot Mr. Hen
jdrickson, who showed himself thor
oughly capable of meeting every sit
uation. Merrill fools fortunato in
deed, to be able to get his services
for next year.
On the whole the prospects for
next year look very bright for Mer
rill in athletics, and if the mer
chants show the same-helpful spirit
of cooperation that they did this
year, and we know they will, Mer
rill ought to do as good or even bet
ter than the past year.
Our new Community Hall with its
added gymnasium facilities will be
a great help, as the baskotball team
was somewhat handicapped when
they met teams who had a larger j
floor to play on. -
But handicaps are no deterrent to
a team determined to win as Merrill
has shown by her victories.
