effort to relieve the famiiiesj of
those who perished In the mine.
Unofficial estimates by mine of
ficials placed the number of such
victims at 41) widows' and 75
orphans. For the mosl part, they
said, these fumllies were entirely
dependent upon the earnings of
their futhers, sons? and brothers
who died in tho mine.
Those who survived the explos
ions. It was pointed out, died
