The starting signal' for a busy
season in the lumber industry, echo
ed over (be. city, and onto the east
ern hills Monday morning at eight
o'clock, when Mack Chilcoot, en
gineer at the-power plant of the "Un
derwood Lumber ' company Jerkea
heartily, on the whistle cord and
unloajGcd the -old familiar tones
of tbo box factory .whistle. None
will say but that It a welcome sound
and' new life and pep and an optim
istic smile appeared on local faces.
. The factory starts the season
with plenty, of orders on hand and
with new machinery and improve
ments la the plant a greatly increas
ed output will be possible during the
coming year. Plans have been made
tor a continuous run throughout -the?
year and with good market pros
pects 'and t'si.v announcement of
freight reductions, the season -of
1926 promises a most successful
run.
. There are twenty-four men at
present in the operating crew, a
number of whom have come from
outside points, bringing their fam
lles to make their home hero during
the operation of the plant, L. .1.
Mortenson, who worked at the plant
last year, has been made foreman
of the plant. I. A. Underwood as
