The vogue ot the bat and scarf
which matches In material or de
tail Is a particularly smart affec
tation In smart circles. The scarf,
ot course. Is Important In the new
street ensembles, or In the chic
one-piece frocks which are worn
for afternoons, accompanied by a
email bar.
Marjorio Daw. who Is so charm
ing a personality In "One Way
Street." a First National film,
wears a new and delightfully
smart version ot the hat and scarf
comblnaUon In a particularly
fetching afternoon hat and gown.
The frock Itself, which Intro
duces black as a leading color fa
vorite, after a somewhat lengthy
. absence, la beautifully- embroid
ered In gold In a Chinese motif.
Tassels In gold lend an ezotlo
noto to the embroidery, and also
finish an annsual tie. made entire
ly ot beads In chain effect.
The little turban which accom
panies the gown Is of gold lace
and metalllo material, and closely
fits the bead. The scarf, which
matches the bat so closely. Is of
gold lace, and Is deeply bordered
In ostrich trimming.
The vogue for matching the
cart and gown gives unlimited
opportunities for adding chlo to
the simplest costumes. Where the
hat Is or organdie, a scarf of love
ly tinted organdie, with perhaps a
gay floral bouquet for adornment
creates a distinctive summer en
: semble.
! Equally effective, ot course. Is
! the sports outfit which Is ot wooL
' Just now. when tiny bats ot telt
lead the vogue tor sports occa
sions, the scarf, which matches It
In felt and in color, is brlghUy
worn over a trim one-piece frock.
, These scarfs are gorgeous la col-
orlng and add to their beauty by I
the applique which Introduces
starUlngly brilliant shades In flow
er and bird patterns- The scarfs
of this type which are most ef
fective are three cornered and are
frequently deeply fringed.
A particularly stunning bat and
scarf combination recently exhib
ited In an exclusive shop bad
white predominating as a back
ground, with Bold flowers gaily
distributed over the surface In
beautiful applique. The bat which
matched was a jaunty little fell
with a gorgeous grouping of field
flowers In felt placed low over
one ear.
Another window displayed a like
combination In canary color, with
light greens and orchids carrying
out the vogue for pastel shades
which the summer season so hap
pily forecasts.
All black, when troated In the
manner of Miss Daw's costume,
takes on the air ot an important
color, particularly when the bat
and scarf which accompany It load
a bright color note.
In the evening, when a bat Is
worn to the theatre or dinner, a
scarf which matcbos It In pastel
chiffon, or metalllo malarial. Is
well chosen.
' The sports frocks, of course,
rely upon felt hats for their cor
rect accompaniment, but frequent
ly hats of silks aro worn with the
afternoon sports gown with a de
cided air ot chic. These bats,
worn with a tiny brim to becom
ingly shade the face, are made
doubly effective by the matching
scarft ot silk, with Its gay bouquet
of flowers bung at one end. or em
broidered In worsted at telling
spots.
